In 1983, Gilles Leizour took over the Warenghem distillery and launched production of a barley and wheat whisky, marketed in 1987 under the name WB. In 1993, he invested in new equipment to produce a single malt, named Armorik, which was first bottled in 1998. Contrasting with the intensely peaty Yeun Elez from the same collection, this version, with its pronounced maritime character, boasts a phenol content of 30 ppm. More mature than its pale color suggests, it unfolds an exotic aromatic and flavor palette, revealing Armorik in a light as unexpected as it is seductive.

Slightly Peated

Nose : Fine, fresh. Lactic (barley porridge), lemony, mineral (bitumen), and fruity (white grape), the aromatic palette gradually evolves toward more herbaceous (straw, cut hay), menthol, and medicinal (balm) notes. Upon aeration, it reveals new fruit (pear, apple) as well as eucalyptus aromas.

Appearance : or pâle.

Palate : Full, elegant. With a beautiful structure, the flavor palette is simultaneously lemony, ashy, and spicy (ginger, clove). Verdant (green barley, sage), it gradually evolves toward aniseed and milky (almond, coconut) accents. A very lovely mineral (slate) and floral (lily, iris) aftertaste.

Overall : Long, balanced. Revealing agave flavors of great purity of expression, it evokes a high-ranking mezcal. This evocative power is then amplified by absolutely delicious notes of white asparagus. On retro-nasal olfaction, a thin film of soot gradually coats the taste buds. Later, the glass emphasizes the mineral (coal) character of this atypical Armorik.
