WOODFORD RESERVE Sonoma Cutrer Pinot Noir

Straight Bourbon, United States / Kentucky, 70cl, Ref: 19727

Situated in Versailles, the Woodford Reserve distillery was rebuilt in 1996. Renamed Labrot & Graham in 2003, it is the smallest distillery in Kentucky. Its Master Distiller, Chris Morris came up with the idea of producing this version, which is finished in French oak barrels that have previously contained Pinot Noir wine from the California wine estate, Sonama-Cutrer. On account of its syrupy character, the palate is redolent of a fortified sweet wine made from Pinot Noir grapes.

Profile: characterised by notes of tobacco and liquorice and evoking a fortified wine (Banyuls). Powerful nose.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : deep orangey copper.
  • Nose : firm, powerful. The mustard seeds that float on the aromatic palette’s surface give the initial nose plenty of character. It evolves with ripe fruit (apricot, peach), spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) and pepper (Espelette, Cayenne). Little by little, orange zest and dark chocolate form a charming couple.
  • Palate : lively, clean. Characterised by notes of tobacco and liquorice, the attack on the palate is very much in harmony with the intensity of the nose. Vinous, the mid-palate is evocative of a fortified sweet wine (Banyuls). Dried fruit (date, fig), cherries in brandy, oranges and dark chocolate develop into a very refreshing, saline atmosphere.
  • Overall : at first faithful, it continues on the same lines as the end of the palate. It then opens up with new fruit (raspberry, redcurrant, blueberry), and liquorice and herbaceous (cut hay, verbena) notes. The retro-olfaction offers a delicious home-made orange jam. The empty glass is delightfully resinous (pine, cedar).
The brand

The brand
