WILLIAM LARUE WELLER Antique 107 Proof The Chronicles 53,5%

Bourbon, United States / Kentucky, 1L, Ref: 55178

Quantity limited to 1 bottle(s) by client.

This wheated bourbon from the Buffalo Trace distillery bears the name of the iconic 19th century distiller William Larue Weller. With extreme precision, the palette of flavours and aromas brings out not only maize but also wheat, the second main grain used in the whiskey. Lots of spices, apricot jam and dried fruits add the finishing touches to this very fresh and mature picture. Fans will particularly enjoy the finish's oriental character (rose petal, mint tea).

Profile: the pulpy initial nose places maize in the centre of the aromatic palette. It is also vanilla. Allowed to breathe, it becomes malty and spicy (ginger). The lively attack wavers between apricot jam and quince jelly. The mid-palate is powdery and spicy (clove). The well-balanced finish is empyreumatic (thuja), oriental (rose petal) and luscious (rosemary, savory). Exclusive to LMDW.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : copper with glints of old gold.
  • Nose : fresh, pulpy. The maize stamps its rich signature on a vanilla and creamy initial nose. Allowed to breathe, wheat and malty tones bring lots of refreshment. Soon, spices make their entrance (ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg). Full of life, the aromatic palette is incredibly subtle. Notes of stewed apple, bitter orange and apricot stone.
  • Palate : clean, lively. The attack wavers between quince jelly, apricot jam and vanilla. In the same spirit as the nose, the palate is very ethereal whilst demonstrating huge presence. The mid-palate is delicately powdery and spicy (clove, grated ginger). At the end of the palate, juicy, crisp white peaches refresh the taste buds.
  • Overall : long, well-balanced. Empyreumatic (cedar, thuja), rich (still with apricot jam) and closely reflecting the grains, the finish takes on oriental tones to great effect (Turkish delight, rose petal, mint tea). On the retronasal olfaction, dried fruits arrive in abundance (pecan, grilled almond). The deliciously fragrant empty glass reveals aromas of rosemary, savory, milk chocolate and curry.
