WIDOW JANE 10 years old High Rye Bourbon - Barrel #1080 - 60th Anniversary LMDW 45,5%
Bourbon, United States / New York, 70cl, Ref: 52066
Located in Brooklyn, the Widow Jane distillery was founded in 2014. To make its future straight bourbon whiskeys, it uses cereals grown by the distillery’s farm also located in the state of New York in Rosendale, as well as those grown by a farm in Pennsylvania. Its spring water comes from Rosendale’s former mine called ‘Widow Jane’. While waiting for its bourbons to reach maturity, Daniel Preston and his team rigorously select rye bourbons from a distillery in Kentucky. The sweetness of this single barrel no. 6 is rather like the syrupy wines of the Loire Valley and illustrates just how high the founder of this young micro-distillery sets his standards of quality.
Profile: balanced, with a very youthful expression, the nose wavers between citrus fruit, fresh fruit, the sweetness of corn and the firmness of rye. It is even unusually reminiscent of a sweet Loire wine. The corn and rye enjoy the lion’s share of the attack on the palate. It then becomes roasted, vanilla- scented and delicately spiced.

- Appearance : yellow with hints of orange.
- Nose : unctuous, balanced. A very young expression, the initial nose wavers between citrus fruits (lemon, orange), fresh fruit (apple, plum), sweet maize and the firmness of the rye. Allowed to breathe, with great originality it evokes a sweet Chenin wine. Extremely free, it is also characterised by notes of noble wood and peanuts.
- Palate : deep, dense. Initially the maize and rye enjoy the lion’s share and dominate the palate, which gives the opening plenty of smoothness. The mid-palate is roasted, vanilla-flavoured and subtly spicy (ginger, cinnamon). It gradually evokes the freshness and delicate flavours of green tomato fritters.
- Overall : long, creamy. Notes of cereal, vanilla, chocolate and green mint give it remarkable balance. Both fresh and heady, it becomes increasingly powdery (cocoa, nutmeg), apricoty and roasted (coffee). Cereal shines through in the retro-nasal olfaction with equal measures of corn and rye. The empty glass is fruity, floral (lilac, hyacinth) and plant-based.
