Rhum De Melasse, British Guiana, 70cl, Ref: 52179

The Uitvlugt distillery, equipped with a four-column Savalle still, had once housed stills from the Albion, Blairmont, Port Mourant and Skeldon distilleries before it closed its doors for good in 2000. All of the stills were then transferred to the Diamond distillery. With a cane flower minerality, through its fruitiness emphasised by enthralling purity of expression and its herbaceous and vanilla-scented notes, this version bottled at cask strength is evocative of an Irish pure pot still made from malted and unmalted barley.

Profile: precise and mineral, the nose is lactic (agave), lemony and spicy. Breathtakingly beautiful, the palate is evocative of a thoroughbred Irish whiskey. Exotic, fresh and vanilla-inspired, upon airing it becomes increasingly creamy and gourmand.

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : deep burnished gold.
  • Nose : refined, precise. Mineral (chalk), lactic (agave), fruity (lemon) and spicy (star anise), the initial nose is absolutely beautiful. Upon airing, it takes on herbaceous (cut hay), vanilla-scented and especially roasted (coffee) tones. Freshly harvested sugar cane and candied fruit (peach, mango, date) lend the aromatic palette great finesse of expression.
  • Palate : elegant, complex. Its exoticism (passion fruit, lime) is reminiscent of a premium Irish whiskey. This is enhanced by the fact that notes of roasted pineapple and mango rush in to make an incredible entrance right in the middle of the palate. Almond milk, fresh walnut and white peach add sweet softness to the back of the palate.
  • Overall : long, radiant. Notes of chalk come crashing in to underpin the gorgeous minerality of the palate. It continues to demonstrate its Irish connection. Its woody aspect is vanilla-scented and spicy (ginger, cinnamon). The retro-nasal olfaction is gourmand (cream tart, vanilla custard). The empty glass is at once sweet and fruity (Mirabelle plum) and gourmand (tarte tatin).
The brand

The brand

Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.

The line
