TORMORE 16 YEAR OLD 48%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 18060
Official bottlings of Tormore are few and far between. When you taste this version for the first time, you have to ask why! But that doesn’t stop us from making the most of the delicate exuberance of this 16 year-old which in many ways evokes the beauty of the distillery’s buildings, designed by Sir Albert Richardson of the Royal Academy in the 1950s.
Profile: heady, firm. Malty, heather honey, candied fruit (peach, apricot), exotic fruit (kiwi, kaffir lime). Coconut and vanilla ice-cream.

Expert Reviews
83 points, Serge Valentin on Whiskyfun.com, 8 October 2013Tasting note
- Appearance : old gold with glints of coppery orange.
- Nose : heady, firm. Cuts straight to the chase: malted barley, heather honey, candied fruit (peach, apricot), exotic fruits (kiwi, kaffir lime). Remarkably full-bodied throughout. Coconut and vanilla ice-cream gradually coat the olfactory palette in an opaline layer.
- Palate : both delicate and exuberant. Exotic fruit (mango, passion fruit) suddenly floods the palate. After this strong entry, that is not really predicted by the nose, it shows stunning saline balance. Lactic, it lingers with notes of milk chocolate, fresh walnut and vanilla. A delightful fruity bitterness (peach skin) gradually coats the taste buds.
- Overall : long, concentrated. The spicy register takes hold. This is expressed with notes of black pepper, fresh ginger and cloves. It barely softens before offering delicious fresh fruit (pineapple, ripe apple). The retronasal olfaction is generous (calisson almond sugar sweets) and the empty glass earthy and rustic (dandelions, daisies).

The brand
Founded in 1958 by the Long John Distillers group, Tormore was the first distillery to be built in the 20th century. Located on a curve in the road as you arrive in Grantown on Spey, it was designed by Sir Albert Richardson. The buildings are now listed. In 2005, it became the property of the Chivas Brothers group (Pernod Ricard) and contributes to the production of numerous blends, including Ballantine’s.

Très bon whisky. Epicé, finale plus longue que le 14 ans.

Un whisky parfait pour cette gamme de prix, un très bon écossais riche en goûts et en arômes.
