TEANINICH 35 ans 1983 30th Anniversary S.V 57,5%

Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands, 70cl, Ref: 55236

Quantity limited to 1 bottle(s) by client.

Founded in 1817, Teaninich was originally equipped with four stills. In 1970, a new distillery, which was christened "A Side" and equipped with six stills, was built just next to the old distillery, which was renamed "B Side", leading to the creation of the one of the most complex distilleries in Scotland. For 15 years, both units worked together, before B Side was eventually closed in 1984 and A Side in 1985. In 1991, only A Side was reopened, and in 1999 B side was demolished. With remarkable mentholated freshness, this venerable version has withstood the test of time without gaining a single wrinkle. Even better, it has wonderfully kept in tact the luscious character of its youth whilst allowing its fruitiness to develop increased exoticism and maturity.

Profile: the refined first nose is malty, mentholated and ever so slightly smoky. Allowed to breathe, juicy pears, vanilla and aromatic plants (verbena) bring lots of freshness. Powerful whilst maintaining the fruit from the nose, the attack is peaty and saline. The end of the palate is nobly spicy (cardamom). The elegant finish is rich (vanilla flan) and naturally malty. The peat and smoke have completely disappeared. The fruit has become increasingly exotic (passion fruit, persimmon). The retronasal olfaction highlights the accomplished maturity of the palette of flavours. Single Cask n° 8070 – Refill Sherry Butt

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : vibrant gold.
  • Nose : refined, precise. On the first nose, malted barley, green mint and a very light hint of smoke spread across the surface of the aromatic palette. Allowed to breathe, fresh fruits (apple, melon, kiwi) gradually appear. Note that this sequence of aromas is magnificently underscored by a consistently delicate minerality (chalk), succulent notes of vanilla, citrus fruit (grapefruit, lemon) and a floral and herbaceous freshness (verbena, broom).
  • Palate : clean, powerful. The attack showcases an oily, salty and ashy peat. This same peat is even more noticeable thanks to its beautifully deep integration in every other element of the flavour palette. From its juicy fruits (pear, greengage plum) to more rustic notes (cut hay, clover). The complex and distinguished end of the palate is characterized by notes of fresh walnut, citrus fruit zest (lemon) and noble spices (cardamom, curry).
  • Overall : long, elegant. With the same intensity, the start of the finish is particularly rich (vanilla flan). A veritable ode to malted barley, the finish is imposingly natural. The peat and smoke have now completely disappeared, making room for a very mouth-watering salinity. The fruit, for its part, has developed an increasingly exotic register (coconut, passion fruit, persimmon). On the retronasal olfaction, notes of forest floor (mushroom, moss) give the flavour palette a feeling of deep maturity. The empty glass is incredibly pulpy. Superb.
The brand

The brand

Located in the North Highlands, Teaninich was at one time something of a double-headed distillery. In 1962, in response to increasing demand, its capacity for production was doubled and it began using four stills instead of two. In 1970, a new production unit “side A”, housing six new stills, was built next to the old unit, which then became known as “side B”. “Side B” was closed in 1984, with “side A” following in its footsteps just one year later. In 1991, the Teaninich of modern times once again became operational. Two official bottlings have since been released. The first, a 10 year old, was released as part of the Flora & Fauna range and the other was released as part of the Rare Malts collection.

Although the independent bottler Signatory Vintage cannot claim to be one of the oldest in Scotland, it has managed to build up an extremely solid reputation amongst the great malt connoisseurs. The creator of the famous range The Prestonfield and many other well-known ranges, it is best known for its un-chillfiltered and cask strength bottlings that offer amateurs the chance to enjoy their whisky in its most natural form. It was also one of the first independent bottlers to acquire a distillery and now offers a growing number of expressions of one of the most artisan single malts available.
