TALISKER 8 ans 2008 LMDW Cellar Book 57,5%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands-skye, 70cl, Ref: 53668
The intense peppery notes revealed on the initial nose undeniably provide the most direct access to the final destination of this whisky - Carbost. On the other hand, if you prefer to take your time, making the most of the beautiful landscapes, why not take one of the many peaty, malty, chocolate, spicy, surprisingly fruity or intensely smoky routes offered by the aromatic and gustatory palette of this Talisker, bottled by the renowned independent Glaswegian bottler Douglas Laing.
Profile: the powerful, extremely peppery initial nose stages a vegetal peat (lichen). Allowed to breathe, it moves into a cocoa, fruity (raspberry, strawberry) and marine register. On the palate, peat reveals aniseed and spicy tones. The finish sees the same peat and smoke take the forefront of the aromatic and gustatory palette.

Tasting note
- Appearance : pale gold.
- Nose : expressive, powerful. The extremely peppery initial nose also centres on a vegetal peat (turf, lichen). Allowed to breathe, malted barley and spices (clove) gradually take hold of the taste buds. With a delicate cocoa register, it lingers with notes of root (gentian), vetiver and red fruits (raspberry, strawberry). Gradually, a marine atmosphere brings us to Loch Harport.
- Palate : rich, unctuous. On the attack, the same delicately peated malt barley offers its aniseed and saffron tones. The mid-palate is surprisingly and wonderfully very fruity (William pear, apple) and lemony. On the end of the palate, liquorice and cut hay prolong the peaty sensation of the initial nose.
- Overall : long, silky. Notes of peat and ash now clearly dominate. A powerful, earthy and spicy Havana cigar literally fills the palate. In keeping with its precedents, the retro-nasal olfaction is lemony and mentholated and the empty glass milky (coconut), creamy (yoghurt), malty and chocolatey (cocoa bean).

The brand
Talisker, which means “sloping rock” in Norse, is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye, the most northerly island in the Inner Hebrides and an area little protected from the storms of the Atlantic Ocean. Established in 1830 on the banks of Loch Harport, it has a status all of its own in the world of whisky. Its soft and peaty water comes not from streams or rivers, but from the 21 underground springs of nearby Hawk Hill. Its single malt, produced using traditional methods, has an easily-identifiable, oily character that comes from slow cooling after distillation. Find out more
