This version produced from sugar cane grown locally in a granite soil was distilled in pot stills and has a very precise ester content of 466 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. Combining finesse and power, the flavour and aroma palette confidently explores the world of white brandy in order to fully highlight its incredibly pure expression of cane juice.

- Nose : full yet ethereal. The first nose expresses enveloping fragrances of cane juice and cane sugar with great finesse. Allowed to breathe, the aroma palette develops remarkably diverse fruity registers (peach, pear, raspberry, pineapple), while notes of tobacco and fresh ginger gradually take centre stage. Heady (iris, geranium), it lingers on notes of candied citrus fruit (lemon, grapefruit).
- Palate : rich, generous. Giving its own take on the aroma palette’s abundantly fruity register, the attack adds notes of cherry that bring an aged kirsch to mind. On the mid-palate, noble spices (star anise, clove, cinnamon) appear alongside floral (lilac, lily of the valley) and tangy (bergamote) flavours. The especially smooth end of the palate wavers between frangipane and nuts (pistachio, almond).
- Overall : long, creamy. Characterized by impressively mineral (granite) notes of cane juice, the start of the finish is more candied (lemon, pear, pineapple). At the end of the finish, rose petals and geranium flowers are placed delicately on the taste buds. The creamy retro-nasal olfaction creates an intense picture of red fruit jams (cherry, raspberry). The empty glass is herbaceous (sugar cane), floral (geranium) and spicy (star anise, ginger).
- The brand
Founded by Richard and Bernard d’Offay in 2002, the Trois Frères distillery is on Mahé island in the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean. Produced from sugarcane grown in the Seychelles on granitic, non-volcanic soil, Takamaka rums are characterised by a terroir that is very different from that in other rum-producing regions. Takamaka produces two types of rum, a particularly aromatic, agricultural style ‘heavy rum’, distilled in traditional pot stills, and a ‘light rum’ distilled in column stills. The Offay brothers’ entire range has been created from these two types of rum.
The Velier company was founded by the Chaix family in 1947. From 1953 to 1983, this small traditional company, located in the port of Gênes, specialised in the importation and distribution of wines, champagnes and spirits. In 1983, then aged 25, Luca Gargano acquired shares in Velier. Under his influence the company began specialising in the importation of exceptional spirits to be supplied to the most prestigious establishments in Italy. In the early 1990s, Luca Gargano heard rumours of a mythical, quasi-legendary stock of St James Rum that had supposedly been distilled at the end of the 19th century. Eventually he discovered proof that this stock, distilled in 1885 and bottled in 1952, did indeed exist. And in 1991, following lengthy discussions, Luca finally managed to acquire the entirety of this stock, which he then released on the Italian market. These selections of rums have since multiplied and led to the birth of exceptional ranges.
