Tasting note
- Appearance : Golden yellow with flashes of topaz.
- Nose : Young, elegant. The nose initially opens into something reminiscent of a tequila (pepper, lemon, salt) with sugar cane fields nevertheless lingering in the background. It reaches its crescendo in a burst of heady flowers (tuberose, lily), notes of tapioca
- Palate : Vigorous in its fiery spiciness and creamy thanks to its vanilla and melon-inspired notes. Sugar cane and a handful of chillis form the backbone here, with acacia honey, coconut and almond paste running down its length.
- Overall : Fairly dry. Lime, dried apricot and pine sap suggest a tightening dryness. Yet this is as gourmand as it gets (vanilla, honey, flan). The empty glass is chocolatey and spiced (nutmeg).

The brand
Founded by Richard and Bernard d’Offay in 2002, the Trois Frères distillery is on Mahé island in the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean. Produced from sugarcane grown in the Seychelles on granitic, non-volcanic soil, Takamaka rums are characterised by a terroir that is very different from that in other rum-producing regions. Takamaka produces two types of rum, a particularly aromatic, agricultural style ‘heavy rum’, distilled in traditional pot stills, and a ‘light rum’ distilled in column stills. The Offay brothers’ entire range has been created from these two types of rum.
