The brand
Founded in 1828, Springbank would later fall into the hands of the Mitchell family, who still own it to this day. Springbank is one of the last Scottish distilleries to carry out all of its production on site, from malting to bottling. Known for the extremely high quality of its sherry-influenced bottlings, a dry period in the 1980s left an indelible mark on Springbank’s stocks. Its style can therefore be easily separated into two periods: the first, with an emphasis on sherry casks, lasts up until to the 1990s, and the second, more centred on bourbon casks, begins just after the turn of the millennium.
Merchant
Although the independent bottler Signatory Vintage cannot claim to be one of the oldest in Scotland, it has managed to build up an extremely solid reputation amongst the great malt connoisseurs. The creator of the famous range The Prestonfield and many other well-known ranges, it is best known for its un-chillfiltered and cask strength bottlings that offer amateurs the chance to enjoy their whisky in its most natural form. It was also one of the first independent bottlers to acquire a distillery and now offers a growing number of expressions of one of the most artisan single malts available.
