RUM NATION 2005 Diamond - 60th Anniversary LMDW
Rum, British Guiana, 70cl, Ref: 51949
In 1975, eleven years after the independence of Guyana, formerly British Guiana, all the distilleries in Demerara were nationalised and closed so that they could be combined into one single distillation site: Diamond. This eponymous vintage bottled at cask strength wastes no time revealing the breadth of its aromas and flavours. The attack on the palate is extremely peppery, setting the tone for a tasting full of never-ending rhythm sure to delight the taster.
Profile: creamy and powerful, the nose is very exotic (mango, guava), chocolatey and delicately woody. It then becomes more full-bodied, floral and camphorated. On tasting, gusts of pepper invade the palate. It gradually becomes powdery (cocoa) and floral (lavender, violets).
Limited edition of 252 bottles

- Appearance : mahogany with glints of green.
- Nose : creamy and powerful. On the initial nose, very ripe mango, guava and roasted pineapple are covered in a fine dusting of chocolate and noble wood. It develops into notes of baked apple and peony. Next, candied apricots bring huge smoothness before the whole nose becomes more medicinal (camphor, mustard poultice).
- Palate : powerful, lively. On the attack, bursts of grey pepper take the palate by storm. This tumultuous beginning highlights, if ever it was necessary, all the personality of this complex and demanding rum. Gradually, cinnamon and liquorice take over the mid-palate. Powdery and unctuous, its very fine grain also brings out a minerality bursting with energy (slate, manganese). Floral notes of violet and lavender flood the end of the palate with their heady perfumes.
- Overall : long, velvety. With rare precision, notes of cocoa beans and coffee beans are revealed. The finish conjures up images of chocolate desserts, mocha and coffee eclairs. A handful of citrus fruits (orange, mandarine) and aromatic plants embellish the retro-nasal olfaction that draws out the sensation of well-being emanating from this stunning finish. Staying close to the initial nose, the empty glass incites us to begin the tasting again.
- The brand
The Rum Nation range is the result of years of research and tasting. Launched in 1999, this range has a distinctly Latino style with rums from unusual countries such as Panama and Guatemala. Each release is carefully bottled at between 40 and 45% ABV, to combine balance, mellowness, texture and flavour. Fabio Rossi wanted to introduce fine spirits enthusiasts to new products from the Caribbean and Latin America, and was one of the first to explore the rums of Peru and Panama. The product of a three-hundred-year-old tradition, each rum has a flavour and a personality that offers a unique expression of its region and origins.
