In 2004, Luca Gargano took Gianni Capovilla to Marie-Galante to convince him to produce “the best agricultural rum in the world”. An undisputed master of eau de vie, Gianni Capovilla accepted the challenge and installed a still in the Bielle distillery in 2005 and the Rhumrhum company was born. A second still was installed in 2007. In 2008, the first bottle of Rhumrhum PMG Rhum Agricole Blanc was put on the market. From its past as a sugar-producing island, Marie-Galante grows varieties of cane that had once disappeared, which is used to produce Rhumrhum.
