REMI LANDIER Reserve de la Famille - Lot 62 - 60th Anniversary LMDW 52%
Cognacs, France / Poitou-charentes, 70cl, Ref: 5938
Distilled by Remi Landier in the 1960s in a little copper pot still and born in the spectacular Fins Bois region, this limited edition of 60 bottles was aged in a red oak cask for over 50 years before being bottled at cask strength. Remarkably refreshing, it draws on vanilla from start to finish in emphasising the extreme complexity of its aromatic and gustatory palette, which reveals itself to be exotic, tertiary, floral, chocolatey, spicy and medicinal by turns. Long after, a subtle note of beeswax and sandalwood lends it great nobility of expression.
Profile: very exotic (passion fruit, mango), the nose also offers scents of vanilla and a light smoky woodiness. The attack is floral, followed by a generous mid-palate (quince jelly). Hint of furniture polish (emery paper) and a medicinal note on the finish.

- Appearance : orangey copper with glints of green.
- Nose : fine, fleshy. Highly exotic (passion fruit, mango), the initial nose also emerges vanilla-scented and apricoty before a light woody smokiness floods the aromatic palette. Next come notes of dried fruit (almond, date, chestnut) in a testimony to the venerable age of this Reserve from the Landier family. It gradually becomes balsamic (cypress, eucalyptus).
- Palate : simultaneously firm and creamy. Vanilla pods rub shoulders with heady florals (broom, hyacinth) and herbs (camomile, sage). With intense freshness, the mid-palate reveals notes of white grape and white peach. The back of the palate is chocolatey, mentholated and roasted (tobacco, coffee). A handful of spices gradually make an appearance (nutmeg, cumin).
- Overall : long, distinguished. Expressing itself with as much fervour as ever, the vanilla shifts towards something more dessert-inspired (flan, eclair). It lingers on to notes of quince jelly and emery cloth. It emanates a wonderful feeling of fullness. The retro-nasal olfaction becomes increasingly medicinal (camphor, balm). The empty glass is characterised by notes of salted butter caramel and bourbon vanilla.
- The brand
Passionate about the production of cognac for five generations and the product of a family tradition established in the heart of the Fins Bois appellation in 1890, the Landier family produces cognacs from Ugni Blanc grapes in the clay-limestone terroir of Terre de Groie. Distillation on lees is used to preserve the maximum amount of aromas and body. The eaux de vie are then aged in French oak casks from Limousin and Allier. As well as cognac, the family also produces Pineau des Charentes and Charente vin de pays. The Rémi Landier brand was established in 1973 and recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.
