PIERRE FERRAND 1914 The Last Cask

Nose : rich, complex. The initial nose is incredibly fruity for such a venerable cognac. Candied apricots mingle with pineapple and mango. Once aerated, it develops into a more floral register (grapevine flower, iris). Increasingly concentrated, it develops into candied citrus fruit (orange, tangerine) and notes of incense and camphor. Fine wood dust is steadily sprinkled over the aromatic palette.

Palate : taut, lively. As with the nose, the attack on the palate has retained a huge amount of freshness and energy. With the same exoticism (pineapple, mango), it develops into notes of liquorice and dried fruit (almond, fig). More tertiary, the mid-palate is roasted (tobacco, tea) and spiced (saffron, fresh ginger). It lingers with apricot kernel and dark chocolate

Overall : long, delicate. Full of smoothness, its touch evokes the skin of perfectly ripe fruits. Praline and gentle vanilla flavours mingle at the very end of the palate with heady florals (hyacinth, lilac) and passion fruit. The retro-nasal olfaction wavers between raisins and noble wood. The empty glass favours beeswax over currants.
