- The brand
The North British grain distillery was founded in 1885 by three important names in the world of blended scotch at the time: Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John M Crabbie. The aim was to join forces in order to compete against DCL, a structure created in 1877 that brought together a huge number of distilleries, whose production it controlled. The mission for North British was to supply all of the grain whisky required for the growth of various blends, such as Usher’s Whisky and Vat 69. The distillery remained independent until 1993 when it joined the Diageo group.
MerchantEstablished in 2013, Maverick Drinks represents a number of producers from the US and Europe, focusing on craft spirits because consumers are increasingly looking for products with provenance, authenticity, and craftsmanship they admire.
The lineEvery bottling in the Darkness range has been finished for over three months in a fresh, first-fill Sherry cask. A cask that's been specially rebuilt at just one tenth the size of a standard (500 litre) butt for a hugely increased surface area to volume ratio, yielding maximum richness and depth. Subtlety, poise and elegance have no place here. Welcome to a new level of intensity, concentration and brute-force.
