Discovered in 2000, the same year as Nikka from the Barrel (see entry), Nikka Pure Malt Black, this blend of Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts is reminiscent of certain Islay single malts, especially Caol Ila. More influenced by the Yoichi style, this sweet, floral blended malt evolves with smoky, iodized notes. Also available in a gift box with two glasses and a serving tray, this “Japanese Islay”, of which we are great fans, is exclusively imported and distributed in France by La Maison du Whisky.

Aromas of smoke and peat dominate Pure Malt White’s aromatic palette, enriched with slightly iodized, vegetal notes. Considered to be an intense malt, it is the peatiest whisky in the Nikka range.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : yellow with glints of gold.
  • Nose : elegant and fresh, it develops a peaty, ashy, medicinal character. Elegant evolution with exotic fruit (coconut), flowers (violets) and chocolatey notes (praline).
  • Palate : smooth and refined, it oscillates between smoked, malted barley and honey. It develops vegetal (dried grass), smoked (peat fire) and liquorice notes
  • Overall : long and marine, it reveals floral (violets, lilies) and vegetal (smoked malted barley) notes. It lingers with medicinal notes (cough drops).

The brand

Born into a family of sake producers in 1894, Masataka Taketsuru is considered to be the father of Japanese whisky. After training as a chemist, he began working for the Settsu Shuzo company, who sent him to Scotland in 1918 to carry out an apprenticeship. There he developed a passion for whisky and decided to dedicate his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. His growing success enabled him to open a second distillery near Sendai in 1969: Miyagikyo. The Nikka Whisky group creates its entire line of Japanese whiskies using single malts from these two distilleries. Official website

Excellent Excellent, un de mes whisky préféré.Tourbe très présente et néanmoins subtile, végétale.Des arômes biscuités et reglissés, finale saline et cendrée.Assez original, à essayer!
