A must have LMDW“ This grain whisky was developed upon La Maison du Whisky’s initiative. Aware of the exceptional quality of Miyagikyo’s single grains represented by too few single cask versions, in December 2011 we advised Nikka to develop a more accessible version. Nine months later, the Nikka Coffey Grain 45% was born! The results surpassed our expectations. Somewhere between a Bourbon and a Scotch, it can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, topped up with water or soda water in a long drink or used in cocktails such as a Perfect Manhattan.
The magnificent Nikka Coffey Grain single casks have been included in La Maison du Whisky’s collections for many years now, and no longer need introducing. Some of them were immediately incorporated into the pantheon of great whiskeys. Still very exclusive, Nikka has decided to create a long-term version of this whisky to allow all to discover its particularly smooth and charming style. Made mostly from Coffey still maize, this singular single grain is a delightful snapshot of the grain whiskies that form the foundation of all of Nikka’s blends. This year, the Coffey Grain has upsized from 50 to 70 cl.

Born into a family of sake producers in 1894, Masataka Taketsuru is considered to be the father of Japanese whisky. After training as a chemist, he began working for the Settsu Shuzo company, who sent him to Scotland in 1919 to carry out an apprenticeship. There he developed a passion for whisky and decided to dedicate his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. His growing success enabled him to open a second distillery near Sendai in 1969: Miyagikyo. The Nikka Whisky group creates its entire line of Japanese whiskies using single malts from these two distilleries. Official website
