Archive NIKKA 17 YEAR OLD Tsuru

Japanese Blend, Japan, 70cl, Ref: 661

Quantity limited to 1 bottle(s) by client.

This unusual bottle contains a venerable blend of which only the Nikka group knows the secret. Made from a blend of single malts aged 17 years or more from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries, it is incredibly fruity with stewed apple and oranges. Unctuous, it lingers on notes of cedar.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : burnished gold with glints of amber.
  • Nose : ample, firm. Heady florals (mimosa, honeysuckle) dominate the initial nose. Stewed fruits (apple) also make an appearance. Develops with milky cream and the acridity of smoke. Evocative of a spicy, earthy cigar.
  • Palate : lively, tonic. Smoke layered over juicy citrus fruits (grapefruit, lime). Elegance and incredible precision. Saltiness, acidity, bitterness and sweetness are perfectly distributed, with neither one nor the other gaining the upper hand, intertwined in a delicious cohesiveness.
  • Overall : long, a continuation of the initial balance while gaining in creaminess. Beautifully showcases notes of chocolate and the fine acridity of the peat. Asserts the complex, confident character of the Tsuru 17 year old.
The brand

The brand

Born into a family of sake producers in 1894, Masataka Taketsuru is considered to be the father of Japanese whisky. After training as a chemist, he began working for the Settsu Shuzo company, who sent him to Scotland in 1919 to carry out an apprenticeship. There he developed a passion for whisky and decided to dedicate his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. His growing success enabled him to open a second distillery near Sendai in 1969: Miyagikyo. The Nikka Whisky group creates its entire line of Japanese whiskies using single malts from these two distilleries. Official website
