Archive NEISSON 2004

Rum, France / Martinique, 70cl, Ref: 19740

The woody splendour of this version distilled in 2004 is such that it may have run the risk of eclipsing all of the other facets of its aromatic and gustatory palette. Yet to the contrary, the oak that contained this stunning rum is deeply altruistic, transcending and lending incre - dible elegance to its host of chocolatey, fruity, floral and spiced notes. Magnificent and radiant!

Profile: fine, full-flavored nose. Woody (chocolate, candied fruit) and spicy (cinnamon, ginger) notes. Very exotic finish.

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : vibrant orangey copper
  • Nose : full-bodied, fine. Its woody aspect is exceptional in its depth, elegance and complexity. It embellishes divine notes of chocolate, musk, candied apricot and heady florals (hyacinth, freesia). It develops notes of spices that boast a rare sense of nobility (saffron, turmeric, cumin). Upon airing, it is honeyed (lime blossom, sweet chestnut) and mineral (schist, slate).
  • Palate : lively, firm. The woody facet turns creamy and vanilla-scented. It envelops the gustatory palette in a flourish of spices (cinnamon, ginger). The mid-palate reveals a number of exotic fruits (mango, passion fruit, persimmon, guava). Limes and peppermint add tone to the back of the palate, which also has a chocolatey and roasted (tobacco) side.
  • Overall : long, dazzling. Radiant, it gives full rein to its exotic and opulent character. Warm, with plenty of spice and pepper. Aromatic herbs (lime blossom, sage) and honeysuckle fragrance the very end of the palate. The retro-olfactation and the empty glass are powdered (coconut, cinnamon, cacao) and characterised by kernels and stones (apricot, peach).
The brand

The brand

The smallest distillery on Martinique, Neisson resembles a complex kaleidoscope of green and pink houses, as if they were trying to imitate the luscious surrounding vegetation. Since 1931, three generations have succeeded one after the other at the head of the distillery, preserving the skills and expertise of the greatest Martinique tradition. Grégory Vernant-Neisson, in his early forties and currently at the head of the distillery, describes their Martinique Agricultural Rum AOC: “The most important thing to understand about Martinique rum from is that it’s produced directly from sugar cane juice, and not molasses.” Behind the Neisson philosophy lies a great respect for the value of the land and its properties. Because Martinique, with its volcanic soil and climate (particularly in the north of the island where the distillery is located) has a particularly strong influence on the aromatic palette of Neisson Rums and their unique flavours.
