Ce petit lot de Mortlach a vieilli en fûts de Pedro Ximenes et d’Oloroso de premier remplissage, apportant une intensité profonde et fruitée qui complète le caractère savoureusement complexe de la distillerie, dont le liquide est distillé 2,8 fois. Appelé « La Bête de Dufftown » pour son caractère robuste et riche en umami, l’énigmatique Mortlach est sans doute le secret le mieux gardé d’Ecosse. L’audace des saveurs est la signature de ce lot unique, reconnu comme le monarque de sa vallée aussi assurément que le cerf élaphe.

Tasting note
- Nose : profond et complexe, riche avec des notes de cerises à l’alcool, de vieux chêne et de cuir doux, qui évoluent sur un arôme de toffee croquant et de grains de café enrobés de chocolat
- Palate : texture onctueuse, goût sucré, avec des saveurs de prune de Damas, légèrement salée et sèche
- Overall : moelleuse marie l’épicé au fruité dans une dernière étreinte persistante.

The brand
Founded in 1823, Mortlach is allegedly built on the site of a former illicit distillery. It was one of the rare distilleries allowed to produce alcohol during the second world war, right up until 1944. Using partial triple distillation and a traditional “worm tube” condensation system – also used by Talisker and Edradour – Mortlach produces a very delicate distillate. As is the case with many of the distilleries owned by the Diageo group, very few official bottlings of the malt exist outside of the Flora & Fauna and Rare Malts ranges released in the 1990s.
