Archive LONGMORN 11 YEAR OLD 2002

Single Malt, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 17582

The Longmorn distillery enjoys an excellent reputation amongst enthusiasts and professionals (master blenders in particular). There is only one official bottling but various independent expressions exist; some of which are much older with some legendary versions aged in sherry casks! With this less classic version, which is younger and aged in bourbon casks, Signatory Vintage shows us that Longmorn is always a great Speyside, whatever the expression.

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : light straw.
  • Nose : vanilla. Cereal (soft white bread ), spicy (coriander, nutmeg), with a hint of bitter almond. Fruit (freshly peeled pear) then brings freshness.
  • Palate : a clean, rich attack develops into a full body and sweetness (vanilla, custard, French toast). A hint of herbs brings a subtle bitterness that is far from unpleasant.
  • Overall : creamy and returning to spices (coriander, green pepper).
The brand

The brand

Although Longmorn does not enjoy the same “touristic renown” as its counterpart Strathisla, the quality of its malt whisky makes up for this. Both are owned by Pernod Ricard and are essential components in the Chivas blend, although Longmorn has a more unique and naturally fruity, gourmet character, which lends itself to bourbon or sherry cask ageing.

Although the independent bottler Signatory Vintage cannot claim to be one of the oldest in Scotland, it has managed to build up an extremely solid reputation amongst the great malt connoisseurs. The creator of the famous range The Prestonfield and many other well-known ranges, it is best known for its un-chillfiltered and cask strength bottlings that offer amateurs the chance to enjoy their whisky in its most natural form. It was also one of the first independent bottlers to acquire a distillery and now offers a growing number of expressions of one of the most artisan single malts available.

The line

The Un-Chillfiltered Collection enables enthusiasts to enjoy the flavour of whisky that has not undergone chill filtering. Like cognac, armagnac and other fine spirits, most whiskies today are chill filtered. The whiskies in this range have an appearance and aromatic range that is much more faithful to the original products. Richer, oilier, more aromatic and distinctive, these whiskies are from single casks or are a blend of two or three casks at the most. They offer the ultimate authentic taste experience!
