LINKWOOD 13 ans 2006 COLLECTIVE 4.0 58,1%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 58006
An LMDW exclusive Founded in 1821 by Peter Brown, Linkwood was completely rebuilt in 1872. Almost a century later, in 1971, a new adjoining distillery, named Linkwood N, was created. The two distilleries worked together until 1996, when the original site closed definitively. With incredible finesse, this version wonderfully embodies the minimalist style of this single malt, which is so well renowned amongst enthusiasts throughout the world. Remarkably well-balanced, it is with rare precision that it invites the taster to discover the full breadth and complexity of a palette of flavours and aromas that overflows with lyricism.
Profile: the smooth initial nose is both floral (lavender) and mineral (zan liquorice sweets). A particularly fruity (orange, mango) rancio then brings lots of depth to the aromatic palette that is also marked by toffee. The rich, powerful attack reveals impressive length (straw note). The mid-palate is exotic (guava) and oriental (rose petal). The full finish has a very refined texture. Spicy (clove) and herbaceous (Havana cigar), it gradually takes on an almost poetic dimension (grains of falling dust).

- Appearance : orangey copper.
- Nose : refined, smooth. The floral (lavender, violet) and mineral (zan liquorice sweets, basalt) first nose is incredibly complex. A very beautiful fruity rancio (candied orange, mango, apricot) brings lots of smoothness and depth to an aromatic palette also marked by notes of salted butter caramel and toffee. Allowed to breathe, it becomes increasingly heady, until rose poivrée even rises to the surface of the glass.
- Palate : full-bodied, rich. More powerful than the nose would have you believe, the attack is captivating. Remarkably vegetal and malty, with impressive length. Evoking harvest time (straw, lucerne), the mid-palate reveals a stunning exoticism (guava, mango) and heady character (purple lilac, freesia). Rose petals are then placed delicately on the palate, accentuating the oriental character of the flavour palette.
- Overall : long, full. With a particularly refined texture, the start of the finish is then characterized by flavours of liquorice stick, salted butter caramel, caraway and smoking Havana cigar. It is also very spicy (clove, nutmeg). Gradually, a few grains of falling dust add a poetic dimension to the very end of the palate. The empyreumatic empty glass wavers between beeswax, apricot stone and the patina of antique furniture.
- The brand
Founded in 1821, Linkwood did not begin producing whisky until 1825. Located in Speyside, it remained in the hands of the Brown family until the end of the 1960s when it was destroyed, before being rebuilt in 1872. Following in the footsteps of many other distilleries, it fell into the hands of the Scottish Malt Distillers company in 1933 and played an active role in the development of numerous blends, including Johnnie Walker, White Horse, Haig and Bell’s. The majority of the existing single malt expressions from this distillery are produced by independent bottlers including Signatory Vintage and Gordon & MacPhail, who offer a variety of bottlings matured in sherry casks. An official bottling was introduced at the end of the 1990s: The Flora & Fauna Linkwood 12 Year Old, alongside a handful of other versions for the Rare Malts range.
Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.
The lineSince the dawn of time, artist collectives have been a place of exchange, inspiration and creativity. In the same way, each of the single malts found in our Artist Collective range draws the richness of their olfactory and gustatory palettes from the marriage of various casks. Devoted to diversity, every region and every style of Scottish single malt, peated and unpeated, are represented. Within this range we also find 43%, 48%, 57.1% (100 proof) and cask-strength bottlings. To illustrate the labels of the six bottlings in our first collection, La Maison du Whisky has called on contemporary artists from very different backgrounds. Each of them brings their own very personal touch that echoes the richness of the single malts selected!
