While the fruit is still dominant, the blend of Lecompte 12 renders it more complex and more intense than its younger sibling, with a remarkable aromatic maturity. The master distiller is at the origin of a well-balanced spirit combining fruitiness and complex aromas derived from aging. The result is a Calvados of extraordinary finesse and outstanding length of flavour.
The story of Maison Lecompte begins in 1923. Alexandre Lecompte, a Normandy wine and spirits merchant, decided to sell his business, with the exception of his stocks of old calvados. And so it was that in the cellars of an old farm in Notre Dame de Courson, a remote, almost secret location in some respects, he devoted himself exclusively to the sale of his calvados. Located close to orchards producing some of the region’s finest apples, this picturesque farm now has almost 800 small oak casks distributed between eight cellars, where the slow alchemy of the ageing of very old calvados can take place undisturbed.
