Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Islay, 70cl, Ref: 16589
This version of this famous Islay whisky has been aged in three different types of cask. Like the Quarter Cask, it begins life in American oak casks that have already been used for bourbon whiskey. Part of this spirit is then selected and transferred into quarter casks for a second maturation. It is then transferred a second time, this time into casks that have previously held oloroso sherry. This triple maturation creates a balanced whisky with notes of peat, wood and sherry. After a certain time determined according to the needs of each whisky, it is diluted with water to 48% and bottled without chill-filtration.
A special expression of the Laphroaig single malt, Triple Wood is younger, stronger and richer in taste than its older brothers. This is the perfect whisky for fans of un-chillfiltered, peaty single malts. Die-hard Islay fans will not be disappointed.

- Appearance : shimmering gold.
- Nose : at 48%, it seems quite mild, maybe even sweet. Notes of raisins and juicy apricots appear before a hint of peat smoke, followed by hazelnuts. A drop of water helps reinforce the smoky notes. Even after many years in first-fill bourbon casks and sherry quarter casks, the smoky notes retain all their strength.
- Palate : powerful and creamy. The peat is more powerful than in the bouquet, but maintains its balance with vanilla and fruit notes and a hint of sherry. A few drops of water bring out the citrus and spice notes. The European oak casks have left a light trace of bitterness which marries well with more creamy notes from the American oak casks.
- Overall : long and rich, but also very balanced.

Due to its phenolic character, Laphroaig is well-known among amateurs. It’s no surprise then that the distillery owns its own peat bog, capable of guaranteeing the supply of peat for the next 4,000 years. Laphroaig will never lose its character nor, consequently, its fans and its critics – since such a peaty malt cannot be loved unanimously – even its water, drawn from the Loch Kilbride spring, is filtered through peat!
