JURA 1991 OVER 30 ARTIST #11 54,1%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands-jura, 70cl, Ref: 60108
For the first time ever, Jura joins La Maison du Whisky’s prestigious Artist range—and what an entrance it has made! The rich, smooth and incredibly elegant palette of constantly changing aromas and flavours continually reveals new tastes and fragrances. The oxidative fruit, gentle peat, noble spices and beautiful herbaceous notes perfectly embody the style of this island single malt.
Sourcing actor, importer and exclusive distributor of a portfolio of international brands, La Maison du Whisky is, since 60 years a reference for whisky and spirit lovers. Thanks to our close relationships with producers and independent bottlers, we have access to limited editions and unique products we bring to market exclusively. Curious and creative, we are driven by our passion for products and our desire to constantly bring our clients the latest expressions through our own shops, our website whisky.fr and selected wine retail shops in France.
- Appearance : bright gold.
- Nose : complex, deep. Very ripe pineapple and pear, acacia honey, straw and a very light and delicate peat bring the first nose lots of nobility. Allowed to breathe, camphor, walnut and curry evoke a stunning Château-Chalon wine. With time, subtle notes of meat (bresaola, serrano), vanilla and candied citrus fruit (lemon, grapefruit) lead the nose’s rich and concentrated development. Together, the aromas show lots of breadth.
- Palate : lively yet generous. On the attack, a lovely lemon acidity appears alongside bourbon vanilla. Next, fresh fruits (Mirabelle plum, pineapple, greengage plum, William’s pear) release their deliciously sweet juices onto the taste buds. On the mid-palate, spearmint, chlorophyll and noble spices (cardamom, nutmeg, spearmint) further enhance the chocolatey and roasted (coffee) flavour palette. The end of the palate is characterized by notes of privet, holly and clover.
- Overall : long, deep. The beautifully liquorice start of the finish reveals a host of aromatic plants (camomile, verbena, bay leaf) as well as heady florals (broom, mimosa). Over time, malted barley takes control and then stays centre-stage. The retro-nasal olfaction adds dark chocolate, lime blossom and broad bean. The empty glass reveals dried peat, tobacco and green liquorice.
- The brand
Hours away from the Scottish mainland, miles away from ‘ordinary’; Jura might not be the easiest place to make whisky, but we believe it’s the best. One road, one pub and one distillery - and home to a determined community spirit. Free from distractions, we focus entirely on one thing – making the very best single malt whisky we can. This focus has now led us to a new place. A place reflective of our past, present and future where we can reveal a different side of our character. Signifying the start of a new chapter in our rich story, we have created a new signature style for Jura Single Malt Whisky, a style reminiscent of our past but with a firm eye on the future. An Island future shaped and supported with every step we take. The whisky itself sees a subtle smokiness brought together with a sweetness to create our new defining character. This sees us, for the first time, marry together the classic styles of Highland and Island malts, and unify these in one remarkable whisky.
Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.
Baptised ‘Artist’, this new range makes no bones about proclaiming its identity. Cosmopolitan and contemporary, it draws its inspiration from the style that gave the Italian bottlings of the 60s and 70s their cult following. From the choice of whiskies (distillery, ageing process, age, strength, bottling procedure) to the design of the bottle and choice of label, every detail has been carefully considered. This range offers a fine presentation of both the whiskies and the artist whose works have been selected for the back labels.
