JURA Prophecy 46%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands-jura, 70cl, Ref: 15345
Our experts reviews“ In a blind tasting it is impossible to tell the difference between peat from Jura and peat from Islay. Hardly surprising you might think, given that there is less than a kilometre between the two islands. More seriously, this Jura reveals a very generous, mellow, marine peatiness, which can already be glimpsed in the Superstition version. With Prophecy, Jura is without doubt the only Scottish single malt capable of offering a range with such a wide aromatic palette. A highly unusual expression, exclusively imported and distributed on the French market by La Maison du Whisky.
A little after 1700, the Campbells of Jura drove away an old prophetess, despite the fact that she was renowned for her wisdom. By way of revenge, she foretold that the last Campbell would leave the island destitute and blind in one eye, with his few belongings in a cart pulled by a single white horse. The prophecy came true in 1938, when Charles Campbell, having lost the sight of one eye in the First World War, fell on hard times and led his white horse down to the pier for the last time. Like Jura itself, Prophecy is a whisky impregnated with such stories: each drop recounts a different legend.

- Appearance : old gold with coppery, orangey glints.
- Nose : subtle and precise. Smoke, fresh fruit and chocolate are intimately entwined. Coconut milk and barley porridge come to the forefront. Becoming more refined, it evolves notes of buckwheat honey, Turkish delight, vanilla and black fruit (cherries). The peat becomes more noticeable, accompanied by peanutty aromas. Mineral, rugged.
- Palate : firm, rather dry. The smokiness is more intense, but so are the notes of fruit. At this point, the sherry influence is very noticeable (praline). There is something ephemeral in the mid-palate. Vegetal (cut hay) and citrus (lemon, grapefruit) flavours give the whisky an invigorating acidity.
- Overall : long. Never sweet, it has an almost desert-like dryness. Notes of chestnuts and dried mushrooms gently evolve towards malting barley. Superb aromas of raspberries, apricots, figs and smoke remain in the empty glass.
- The brand
Hours away from the Scottish mainland, miles away from ‘ordinary’; Jura might not be the easiest place to make whisky, but we believe it’s the best. One road, one pub and one distillery - and home to a determined community spirit. Free from distractions, we focus entirely on one thing – making the very best single malt whisky we can. This focus has now led us to a new place. A place reflective of our past, present and future where we can reveal a different side of our character. Signifying the start of a new chapter in our rich story, we have created a new signature style for Jura Single Malt Whisky, a style reminiscent of our past but with a firm eye on the future. An Island future shaped and supported with every step we take. The whisky itself sees a subtle smokiness brought together with a sweetness to create our new defining character. This sees us, for the first time, marry together the classic styles of Highland and Island malts, and unify these in one remarkable whisky.
