Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : deep gold
  • Nose : rich, concentrated. The initial nose is complex, revealing candied fruit (pear, quince), liquorice, unctuous peat, a hint of smoke, and tiger balm. It then opens up into heady florals (heather, iris, lily) and citrus fruit (lemon, grapefruit). The more it breathes, the more the peat leaves its subtle mark on the aromatic palette.
  • Palate : powerful, firm. On the attack, salt comes to the taste buds, bringing out the oily character of this Highland Park. At the same time, spicy peppers give it great energy. Deliciously vanilla, the mid-palate brings a calming effect. It lingers with notes of dried fruit (walnut, hazelnut, date) and citrus fruit zest. The palate is perfectly matched with the nose.
  • Overall : long, tannic. Peat remains the common denominator in the three stages of tasting. This time it is enveloped in milk chocolate and salted butter caramel. With a certain sweetness, it evokes the sugary goodness of communion sugared almonds. The retro-nasal olfaction is particularly juicy (pear, greengage plum). The empty glass is an ode to its bourbon cask maturation.
The brand

The brand

Highland Park owes its special character to two elements that are essential to the production of whisky: people and peat. The latter, used for the barley it malts on site, comes directly from its own peat bogs, which are composed almost exclusively of Calluna heather and its roots. When it comes to people, Highland Park is so proud of its roots that it was the last distillery, a century ago, to still use endemic Scottish barley for the production of its whisky. It even experimented with maturation in Scottish oak casks. Luckily that experiment was abandoned when they proved to be too resinous. Find out more

Although the independent bottler Signatory Vintage cannot claim to be one of the oldest in Scotland, it has managed to build up an extremely solid reputation amongst the great malt connoisseurs. The creator of the famous range The Prestonfield and many other well-known ranges, it is best known for its un-chillfiltered and cask strength bottlings that offer amateurs the chance to enjoy their whisky in its most natural form. It was also one of the first independent bottlers to acquire a distillery and now offers a growing number of expressions of one of the most artisan single malts available.

The line

Baptised ‘Artist’, this new range makes no bones about proclaiming its identity. Cosmopolitan and contemporary, it draws its inspiration from the style that gave the Italian bottlings of the 60s and 70s their cult following. From the choice of whiskies (distillery, ageing process, age, strength, bottling procedure) to the design of the bottle and choice of label, every detail has been carefully considered. This range offers a fine presentation of both the whiskies and the artist whose works have been selected for the back labels.
