HAMPDEN 19 years old 1998 The Wild Parrot LMDW Cellar Book Hid. 64,5%
Rhum De Melasse, Jamaica, 70cl, Ref: 53663
Bottled by the young Italian bottlers Hidden Spirits, founded in 2013 by Andrea Ferrari, this version wonderfully illustrates the very original, even idiosyncratic character of the heavy rums produced by the Jamaican Hampden distillery. A fan of stark contrasts, both on an aromatic and gustatory front, it invites us to explore grandiloquent landscapes overflowing with particularly intense flavours and aromas. With old-fashioned charm, it also goes beyond the borders of reality.
Profile: the full-bodied initial nose is exotic (pineapple), floral (vetiver) and camphoric. Curt, once allowed to breathe, it plunges us into a field of sugar cane. The full attack is medicinal (balm), herbaceous (damp straw) and fruity (lime). The mid-palate is saturated with notes of hydrocarbon (fuel). The rich finish is vanilla and oily. Particularly sunny, it lingers with very ripe fruit (mango, pear) and sweet spices (cinnamon).

- Appearance : bright yellow.
- Nose : full-bodied, full of energy. The exotic (pineapple, banana), floral (vetiver, geranium) and camphoric initial nose is quite simply beautiful. Particularly curt, once allowed to breathe, it plunges us into a field of sugar cane ready to be cut. It then becomes honeyed, roasted (tobacco, coffee) and oily (green olive, castor oil).
- Palate : broad, full. The palate’s medicinal character (tiger balm, benzoin) dominates an attack that is also vegetal (sugar cane), herbaceous (damp straw) and fruity (kaffir lime, lime). The very heady mid-palate is saturated with notes of hydrocarbon (diesel, fuel). At the same time, its floral and rustic charm evokes the lost paradises held dear so dear to poets.
- Overall : long, generous. Bourbon vanilla and essential oils (ylang-ylang) spread across the taste buds. Particularly sunny, it lingers with notes of very ripe fruit (pineapple, mango, pear), sweet spices (cinnamon) and liquorice stick. With its aromas of precious wood and medicinal plants, the retro-nasal olfaction recreates the atmosphere of a countryside pharmacy. The empty glass is hot, fruity and characterised by still warm cane sugar.
