GLENMORANGIE 1991 Grand Vintage 43%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands, 70cl, Ref: 58377
The fourth release in Glenmorangie's acclaimed Bond House No. 1 vintage collection reveals a Highland single malt that blends two profoundly different whiskies in unlikely harmony. Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1991 draws its rich plum character from two parcels of whisky that should never have been brought together. The pairing of these two whiskies seems, in fact, quite incongruous - one, having been aged in Oloroso sherry casks to exude sweet, spicy aromas and the other, in Burgundy casks to release earthy, truffle notes. Yet their contrast, created by this talented blend, has resulted in this surprisingly mellow 26 Year Old Limited Edition - the latest in a collection that explores some of the distillery's most prized aged whisky plots.
- Appearance : Ochre
- Nose : Smooth, deep, intense and fruity. Lots of apricot, plum and baked apple aromas, tinged with chocolate, soft oak and a hint of truffles and star anise. A splash of water releases deeper notes, reminiscent of hickory-smoked ham and damp forest floor.
- Palate : A slightly peppery mouthfeel that carries over into an explosion of fruity flavors, blended with the many aromas of milk chocolate, applesauce, plums and ripe red fruits like cherry and raspberry.
- Overall : A hint of tart citrus that finishes with an amazing combination of oak, fruit and sweet spice.
- The brand
The Glenmorangie distillery has, since 1843, produced its famous single malt in the north of the Highlands. It owns the tallest stills in Scotland, a legacy of the gin stills installed when it first began. A pioneer of maturation in ex-bourbon casks in the 1960s, Glenmorangie also began experimenting with different finishes very early on thanks to the help and great skill of the famous nose, Dr Bill Lumsden. Its series of finishes aim to marry the finesse of this single malt with the flavours and tannins of different wines during a second maturation that lasts around two years. Find out more
