GLENLIVET 2007 Over 10 Years Sherry 8th Edition Batch1 ARTIST S.V 66,5%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 55162
Last Year, the Glenlivet 2007 Whisky Live Paris Edition, aged in sherry casks and bottled at 66.6%, astounded everyone lucky enough to taste it. So, when we first found out that this 900192 cask came from the same batch, we knew it had to be part of this year's Artist Sherry collection. With imposing maturity, every stage of the tasting is linked by a guiding theme that guides the taster, right to the remarkably concentrated dried extracts of the empty glass.
Profile: the rich initial nose reveals stunning balance. It wavers between heady florals, dried fruit and red fruit. Allowed to breathe, liquorice and fig bring lots of depth. The lively attack is characterized by gooseberry and the mid-palate by black cherry and prune. The enveloping finish is liquorice and chocolatey. It is also very mature (corinthian raisin). Single cask no. 900192 – First Fill Sherry Butt.

- Appearance : coppery orange.
- Nose : rich, complex. With incredible balance, the initial nose wavers between heady florals (carnation, peony), leather, dried apricot, heather honey and wild strawberry. Allowed to breathe, it becomes chocolatey. Wild peach replaces apricot and blueberry takes the place of wild strawberry. Further still, black liquorice and fresh fig bring lots of depth to the aromatic palette.
- Palate : sharp, lively. The attack is like a juicy Mirabelle plum tart, served with a helping of gooseberries. Allowed to breathe, a fine layer of salted butter caramel coats the palate. Poetically reproducing the sherry's influence, the mid-palate reveals truly delicious notes of black cherry and prune. The rich (clafoutis) end of the palate reveals an invigorating freshness.
- Overall : long, enveloping. Dark chocolate, liquorice and a handful of blueberries bring energy to an extremely concentrated finish. Iris butter and corinthian raisins further accentuate the sensation of extreme maturity found in the palette of aromas. Both roasted and juicy, the retronasal olfaction wavers between chocolate, coffee, pipe tobacco and blood orange. The balsamic empty glass is characterised by notes of walnut, cumin and cedar.
- The brand
Dubbed simply The Glenlivet, a name which at the time represented a region extremely well-loved for the quality of its whiskies, this distillery was first granted its licence in 1824. Seen as an act of bravery for some and an act of betrayal for others, this allowed it to get a step ahead of the other distilleries in operation. Today one of the most prominent distilleries in Scotland, its single malt is known throughout the world. Mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, The Glenlivet has a fresh and spring-like character marked by citrus and floral notes. Bottlings aged entirely in sherry casks can only be found through independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail.
Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.
Baptised ‘Artist’, this new range makes no bones about proclaiming its identity. Cosmopolitan and contemporary, it draws its inspiration from the style that gave the Italian bottlings of the 60s and 70s their cult following. From the choice of whiskies (distillery, ageing process, age, strength, bottling procedure) to the design of the bottle and choice of label, every detail has been carefully considered. This range offers a fine presentation of both the whiskies and the artist whose works have been selected for the back labels.
