GLENLIVET 12 ans 2007 Twin Cask 64,6%

Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 56694

Quantity limited to 2 bottle(s) by client.

The first distillery to be given an official licence in 1824, Glenlivet is today Scotland’s largest distillery. In 2018, 16 stainless steel washbacks joined the distillery’s 16 original Oregon pine washbacks. A new still room with 7 wash stills and 7 spirit stills was also opened. On a chromatic front, with radiant luminosity, this version invites us to admire very beautiful shades of orange, gold and brown. In terms of the flavours and aromas, which are a source of pure pleasure, it is quite simply a poetic ode to the particularly brilliant sherry-cask maturation.

the ethereal initial nose is dominated by a single fruit, apricot. By its side, orange and precious wood appear alongside noble spices (cardamom). Allowed to breathe, it becomes floral (lilac) and empyreumatic (polish, beeswax). The concentrated attack is characterized by notes of salted butter caramel, apricot jam and vanilla. The mid-palate is like a tarte tatin. The dynamic start to the finish is exotic (mango), chocolatey and honeyed (lime blossom). The invigorating retro-nasal olfaction highlights a very pure expression of the distillate.

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : mahogany with glints of green.
  • Nose : elegant, ethereal. Reproducing empyreumatic aromas of kernels and other more candied and jammy notes, the first nose first focuses on a single fruit: apricot. By its side, orange and precious wood appear alongside noble spices (cardamom, clove, nutmeg) and toffee. Allowed to breathe, it becomes floral (hawthorn, purple lilac). Next, woodwork aromas (polish, beeswax, linseed oil) complete this particularly warm and heady picture.
  • Palate : powerful, concentrated. Providing its own interpretation of the aromatic palette’s floral character, the attack reveals flavours of salted butter caramel, apricot jam and vanilla. The rich mid-palate clearly evokes a tarte tatin topped with spices (star anise, black pepper) and coriander. The resinous (thuja, pine) end of the palate is characterized by notes of spice bread and pipe tobacco.
  • Overall : long, dynamic. At the start of the finish, exotic fruits (mango, persimmon) continue the fruity sensation emanating from this impressively mature Glenlivet. Slowly, cocoa powder, orange peel and lime blossom honey shower the palate. Completely changing track, the retro-nasal olfaction highlights a clear and limpid spirit through which a fresh, invigorating breeze flows. The empty glass is a mass of dried fruit and nuts (date, fig, almond, walnut, sweet chestnut).
The brand

The brand

Dubbed simply The Glenlivet, a name which at the time represented a region extremely well-loved for the quality of its whiskies, this distillery was first granted its licence in 1824. Seen as an act of bravery for some and an act of betrayal for others, this allowed it to get a step ahead of the other distilleries in operation. Today one of the most prominent distilleries in Scotland, its single malt is known throughout the world. Mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, The Glenlivet has a fresh and spring-like character marked by citrus and floral notes. Bottlings aged entirely in sherry casks can only be found through independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail.

Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.

The line

Since the dawn of time, artist collectives have been a place of exchange, inspiration and creativity. In the same way, each of the single malts found in our Artist Collective range draws the richness of their olfactory and gustatory palettes from the marriage of various casks. Devoted to diversity, every region and every style of Scottish single malt, peated and unpeated, are represented. Within this range we also find 43%, 48%, 57.1% (100 proof) and cask-strength bottlings. To illustrate the labels of the six bottlings in our first collection, La Maison du Whisky has called on contemporary artists from very different backgrounds. Each of them brings their own very personal touch that echoes the richness of the single malts selected!
