All about making whisky
A must have LMDW“ If one had to give a prize for best value for money in the Scottish single malts, the Glenfarclas 21 Year Old would win hands down. Not only is 21 years old a more than venerable age, but in the case of a Glenfarclas, you enter the very closed circle of cult whiskies. Aged in sherry casks, this single malt has already conquered several generations of whisky lovers and has a tremendous sweetness that is the trademark of the best Speyside single malts.
This rich, balanced very smooth Speyside single malt is heavily influenced by its sherry cask ageing. With an amber colour, the smoky, woody nose is characterised by sherry. The powerful palate confirms the nose. The long, mellow finish returns to notes of sherry.
An independent distillery since the 19th century, Glenfarclas can claim to produce one of the most traditional single malts in the world. The same type of stills have been used here since 1836; its single malts are aged predominantly in ex-sherry casks, even though these cost ten times more than their American counterparts; running the distillery requires at least 13 people, with the manipulation of its 52,000 casks being performed entirely by hand. The Family Casks collection, the perfect illustration of this long tradition, brings together 43 successive vintage bottlings dating from 1952 to 1994, each one a single cask bottled at cask strength.
