GLEN MORAY 21 ans 1994 - 60th Anniversary LMDW 56,3%

Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 51728

Founded in 1897, the Glen Moray distillery is located not far from the town of Elgin in the north of Speyside. This version, bottled by the famous wine merchant Berry Brothers & Rudd, is a perfect illustration of the firm and complex style of this single malt that is also known for its exuberant fruitiness. Add to this a host of noble spices that provide bags of energy and rhythm to its palette of aromas and flavours.

Profile: refined, the nose is both fruity (Mirabelle plums), vanilla-scented and spicy. It then reveals toasted notes of chilli. The palate is initially characterised by citrus fruit before becoming honeyed and salty. The finish is spicy (saffron, pink peppercorn), fruity (date, redcurrant) and exotic (passion fruit, mango).

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : topaz.
  • Nose : refined, complex. From Mirabelle plum jam to notes of vanilla, from mustard seed to strong spices (nutmeg, star anise, clove) and from vegetal notes (ivy) to liquorice and jammy tones, the initial nose is all at once luxurious, enticing and fresh. Allowed to breathe, the nose becomes toasty, delicately woody and increasingly spicy.
  • Palate : taut, lively. Notes of cereal and citrus fruit (lemon) begin by tracing a line that continues throughout the palate. The mid-palate becomes richer, allowing a glimpse of vanilla and ripe fruit (pear, canary melon) notes. The end of the palate is honeyed (acacia) and saline (salted butter caramel). A handful of spices (cardamom, star anise) beautifully punctuate this very balanced palate.
  • Overall : long, silky. Continuing on from the palate, new noble spices (saffron, pink peppercorn) slip in on the finish before the arrival of numerous exotic fruits (passion fruit, mango, guava). Its perfectly integrated wood also brings out a whole host of other fruits - ripe (pear), candied (apricot), red (red currant) and dried (date). The retro-nasal olfaction is delicately praline and lightly burnt. The empty glass is malty and full of pastry aromas (custard).
