GLEN KEITH 27 ans 1992 The Lotus French Connections Hua Yang 48,4%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 57395
Founded in 1957, the Glen Keith distillery increased its number of stills from three to five in 1970. In 1983, a sixth still was installed. After being mothballed in 1999, the distillery was completely rebuilt in 2012 and began producing again in 2013. In the 1970s, Glen Keith also sporadically produced a malted single malt known as Craigduff or Glenisla. Clearly reproducing from end to end Glen Keith’s very mineral and uncompromising style, this version has maintained all the fruity and herbaceous freshness of its youth. Meanwhile, right when needed - which is to say in the very heart of the tasting - beautiful honeyed, chocolate and roasted sequences remind us, if ever there was need, that this version was distilled almost 30 years ago.

- Appearance : bright gold.
- Nose : refined, precise. The extremely mineral (chalk, tuffeau) first nose is also exotic (banana), vanilla and herbaceous (cut hay). Gradually, a fine layer of liquorice and spices (cinnamon, ginger) envelop the aromatic palette. Allowed to breathe, it takes on more medicinal and camphoric tones. Increasingly rich (vanilla flan), the first sequence of the tasting is punctuated by very purely expressed fruity notes (pear, apple, Mirabelle plum).
- Palate : delicate and creamy. The deliciously honeyed (acacia, lime blossom) attack is also very juicy (pear, pineapple). On the mid-palate, grains of malted barley play host to chocolate and roasted (coffees) nuances that particularly bring out the maturity of the flavour palette. With time, flavours of coconut milk, white mint and black fruits (bramble, blueberry) bring lots of contrast to the end of the palate.
- Overall : long, delicious. Taking on the fruits already mentioned, the start of the finish is tangy and syrupy. Immediately after, a magnificent herbaceous sequence transports us to a malting floor. Flavours of porridge, wort and oatcake fill the entire palate. The retro-nasal olfaction concentrates on exotic fruits (pineapple, banana) and dried fruits (almond, walnut). Beautifully ending the tasting, the empty glass precisely revisits the mineral character of the first nose.
- The brand
Glen Keith was one of the rare distilleries to be built in the 20th century. It was built by the Chivas Brothers in 1957 on the site of a former mill. In 1960, three stills were installed, with two more being added in 1970 and a sixth in 1983. When it first began, Glen Keith produced a triple-distilled malt - a relatively rare practice for a Highland malt. But in the 1970s, it adopted the more conventional method of double distillation. Glen Keith is also commercialised under two other names, Glenisla and Craigduff, from independent bottlers Signatory Vintage and Gordon & MacPhail.
