Tasting note
- Appearance : cuivre orangé.
- Nose : ample, puissant. Du toffee, des fraises, des mûres et des myrtilles d’une part. Du tilleul, du gingembre, du chocolat au lait et du camphre d’autre part. Toutes ces notes donnent une idée de la complexité du nez. Il évolue sur le chêne neuf, les abricots confits, les agrumes (citron vert) et sur la liqueur d’amande.
- Palate : vive, nerveuse. Un alcool supérieur la tire vers le haut. Elle est à son tour marquée par le chocolat au lait, les agrumes confits et les épices fortes (poivre noir, muscade, badiane). A cela, il faut ajouter des fleurs capiteuses (chèvrefeuille), de la vanille-bourbon et des pralines.
- Overall : longue, fine. Avec gourmandise, elle nous fait nous délecter d’une délicieuse tarte à la vanille. Plus tard, des abricots secs, du café vert et des fèves de cacao accentuent son caractère hédoniste. La rétro olfaction est balsamique (cendres, thuya, thym) et le verre vide procure l’agréable sensation de fumer un Havane de grande qualité.

Elijah Craig is part of a small series of American whiskies whose brands, created by the Heaven Hill company, pay tribute to the historic pioneers of bourbon. Elijah Craig was an American reverend with Scottish origins who was often claimed to have been the inventor of bourbon and began producing whisky as early as 1795. The range consists of two main products: Elijah Craig 12 Year Old Small Batch (a blend of at least 100 casks) and, since 1995, Elijah Craig 18 Year Old Single Barrel - both of which are much loved by connoisseurs and often awarded prizes at competitions. The range also includes, on very rare occasions, one-off bottlings, such as the 20 year old single barrel released in 2011.
