ELEMENTS OF ISLAY LP6 51,3%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Islay, 50cl, Ref: 19811
When returning to the empty glass of LP6 much later, there is no mistaking the echoing name of Laphroaig. What other single malt could offer such a chocolatey peat? None - theless, no matter how creamy this bottling is, it also shows an unusual minerality and firm - ness. This is evident from the strong spices and mineral notes that constantly rise to the surface of the aromatic and gustatory palette.
Profile: chocolatey peat. Extremely concentrated. A handful of fruit (William pear, greengages) release their sweet juices.

- Appearance : golden yellow
- Nose : lively, powerful. The nose begins with notes of Espelette peppers that literally rise up from the glass. But the peat quickly takes control. It arrives, ready to hop in the kiln and dry the malted barley. Allowed to breathe, the nose reveals floral (white lilac, hyacinth), liquorice and spicy (ginger, clove) aromas. A handful of fruit (William pear, greengages) spread their sweet juices across still-hot ash.
- Palate : svelte, aloof. The attack on the palate is very natural and brings out a distillate forged in the hardest steel. The mid-palate is extremely concentrated and saturated with smoke and strong spices. With explosive minerality, the end of the palate is characterised by notes of schist and limestone.
- Overall : long, it takes us to a cliff edge to admire a turquoise-blue sea. An invigorating sea breeze titillates the taste buds. The sun reaches its zenith. The air is exceptionally sweet and gentle. On the retro-nasal olfaction, dark chocolate and William pears seal a union that has already proven its success. The empty glass is malty, liquoricey and ashy
- The brand
A wine merchant recently founded by the Singh brothers, the owners of The Whisky Exchange in the United Kingdom, Speciality Drinks offers three ranges of very different single malts. The first, Port Askaig, is composed of four bottlings of an Islay single malt, including an expression with no age statement and a 30 year old! The second, Elements of Islay, celebrates the different distilleries on the island, each easily identified by their initials. The third, simply dubbed Speciality Drinks, offers a wide selection of single malts from Scottish distilleries.
Taking its inspiration from the Periodic Table of elements, the British company Speciality Drinks created Elements of Islay, an exclusive range of single malts from the isle of Islay, bottled unchillfiltered at cask strength. Sourced from all of the island’s distilleries, these bottlings focus on the basic “elements” such as peat, iodine and tar resulting in some powerful whiskies with plenty of character!
