DALWHINNIE Distillers Edition 43%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands, 70cl, Ref: 8051
Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition undergoes a second maturation in oloroso sherry casks with sweet-smelling grapey notes, carefully chosen to complement Dalwhinnie’s characteristic moorland peat and heather honey. Expresses a rich, vinous smoothness, and a spicy complexity with a very astringent woody finish.
A peaty, spicy malt, characterised by a cherry-like sweetness and a dry finish.

- Appearance : Pale amber.
- Nose : Fresh notes of sherry are interwoven with the Dalwhinnie’s more malty, honeyed aromas. Peaty but surprisingly, still with a note of heather coming through. Spicy and yet grapey.
- Palate : A powerful spicy buzz is followed by an impressive accumulation of very distinct, well-defined malt. After a lively explosion of sweetness, a rich note of grapes fills the mid-palate.
- Overall : Lots of oak. Ultra dry, despite being dominated by vanilla.
- The brand
Located at an altitude of 327m, Dalwhinnie is the highest operating distillery in Scotland. It is also where, in 1994, the lowest average temperature in the whole country was recorded: just six degrees! Gaining fame after being included in the Classic Malts selection, Dalwhinnie has in recent years suffered at the hands of the financial crisis and has just lost its place in the famous Classic Malts boxset alongside Oban, Glenkinchie and Cragganmore, who all suffered the same fate. Soft and honeyed with a characteristic and very dry finish, Dalwhinnie is almost only ever found in official bottlings. Find out more
