DALWHINNIE 25 ans 1989 Limited Edition Of 48,8%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands, 70cl, Ref: 50043
For the very first time, Dalwhinnie makes an appearance in Diageo’s limited edition Special Releases range. This is an unctuous, aromatic Dalwhinnie that has reached full, dazzling maturity. Very frank and refreshing for its age. Only 5,916 numbered bottles are available in the world.
- Appearance : Intense yellow gold.
- Nose : Extremely fresh. A little closed off, mellow and waxy initially before turning grassy with notes of hay that stand out against a sweet, malted backdrop. Once it has opened up, fresh head notes of vanilla and floral honey rise to the surface. A splash of water highlights fruity touches with liquid honey and a dash of bitter orange. The earthy aroma morphs into beeswax punctuated by spicy pepper.
- Palate : Unctuous and mellow texture. Mentholated, a smidgen sweet and lemony with a fresh twist. Malty too, with a pleasantly-scented and unexpected mid-palate. The base here is dry. Water softens and seasons the concoction while revealing notes of caramel and cloves, becoming drier and more aromatic with heightened aromas of heather.
- Overall : Fairly short, mouth-watering and dry. Refreshing and mentholated with a fragrance of pine resin and smoke coming next, culminating in a woody finish. Water reinforces its dry character, warming it and adding a spicy flourish that reveals a hint of eucalyptus.
- The brand
Located at an altitude of 327m, Dalwhinnie is the highest operating distillery in Scotland. It is also where, in 1994, the lowest average temperature in the whole country was recorded: just six degrees! Gaining fame after being included in the Classic Malts selection, Dalwhinnie has in recent years suffered at the hands of the financial crisis and has just lost its place in the famous Classic Malts boxset alongside Oban, Glenkinchie and Cragganmore, who all suffered the same fate. Soft and honeyed with a characteristic and very dry finish, Dalwhinnie is almost only ever found in official bottlings. Find out more
