THIS IS NOT A LUXURY WHISKY C. Box 53,1%
Blended Whisky, Scotland, 70cl, Ref: 19645
This is not a luxury whisky. Or is it? The inspiration for this limited release is René Magritte’s 1929 work “Ceci n’est pas une pipe”, a Surrealist painting which challenges peoples’ perceptions of reality. Complex, rich, lightly smoky and opulent. Sultanas, sweet sherry and concentrated floral notes combine with deep demerara sweetness, cacao and lighter creamy coconut character. An inviting nose, fat and full-bodied on the palate with a long, lingering sweetsmoke finish.
Limited edition of 5304 bottles Profile: a wonderfully deep aromatic palette. Lightly peated and liquorice. Dark chocolate and malted barley.

- Appearance : topaz with copper hues
- Nose : ample, elegant. The initial nose has a very elegant, herbaceous profile which includes fern, oregano, and camomile. Notes of grain slowly creep in (corn, malted barley and even rye). Heady florals (peony, honeysuckle) and spices (cardamom, ginger) give the aromatic palette lots of depth. Time stands still for this combination of vanilla, cherries in brandy and precious wood.
- Palate : dense, rich. With great freedom of expression, the attack on the palate rubs shoulders with a light, liquoricey peat. It very quickly sets its sights on notes of acacia honey, pistachio and fresh coriander. In harmony with the nose, it also reveals heady notes of noble spices. Each sip unfolds a series of new flavours (yellow peach, dark chocolate, black liquorice, mint, quince jelly, fine sea salt, etc.).
- Overall : Long, original. In perfect unison with the palate, it transforms the dark fruit into red fruit (strawberry, raspberry) and the dark chocolate into malted barley. The spices become slightly more pronounced, just the right amount to make it last. The retro-olfaction is highly concentrated with powerful notes of honey and undertones of malted barley. The empty glass is marked by black pepper and concentrate of iris
- The brand
Compass Box is unique in the world of whisky. Founded just over ten years ago, it is a small independent company specialising in the blending of whiskies bought from the main whisky producers. Compass Box has made this its speciality, becoming the master in its fields of blended malts, blended grains and blended whisky, with each category represented in its portfolio. It is also a company with a genuine philosophy, elevating blending to a worthy, noble task, distancing itself from its industrial image and reasserting the value of its craft as a ‘whiskymaker’.
