COGNAC FRANCOIS VOYER Single Cask 71 Gde Champagne 44%

Cognacs, France / Poitou-charentes, 70cl, Ref: 52171

Maison François Voyer was established over two centuries ago in the towns of Verrières and Ambleville, in Grande Champagne, where it produces cognacs that are initially aged in new barrels for three years to provide the necessary structure lengthy ageing. Exceptionally complex, this venerable cognac also has a beautiful fresh expression and remarkable strength. The quality of the fruit, the noble spices and the way it reproduces the original grapes with tremendous purity, perfectly highlight the quality of this terroir classified as a ‘premier cru de Cognac’.

Profile: full-bodied, complex. The nose is very mature and characterised by citrus fruit, exotic fruit and spearmint. The palate has notes of vanilla, noble spices (saffron) and fruit (blackcurrant, blueberry). Hints of rose petals, quince jelly and precious wood.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : copper with glints of burnished gold.
  • Nose : ample, generous. Initially, the glass literally explodes with juicy orange and mango. Then notes of gingerbread, tobacco and furniture polish impart a sensation of great maturity. Balsamic, the aromatic palette is gradually covered by spearmint and chlorophyll. The magnificent terroir of Grande Champagne expresses itself to the full. Both fresh and powerful, the nose becomes increasingly floral (honeysuckle, hawthorn) and spicy (curry).
  • Palate : dense, complex. Incredibly exotic (persimmon, mango, passion fruit), the attack also has phenomenally mellow notes of vanilla. The mid-palate is elegantly spicy (saffron, cardamom) and fruity (blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry). Lingers with notes of coffee and black tea. Then dates and rose petals bring a pleasant oriental dimension.
  • Overall : long, silky. Its mouthfeel is very delicate and the quince jelly offered up is quite simply divine. Creamy skin tannins gradually yet quite clearly evoke grapes. The retro-nasal olfaction unveils notes of grated ginger, roasted fig and incense. The empty glass wavers between fruit, precious wood and noble spices.
The brand

The brand

Maison Voyer is first and foremost a family of grape growers. While the history of this family goes back many generations, the vineyard’s existence was only officially acknowledged in the 1870s, when Paul and Emma, the grandparents of Guy, the current distiller, took over the reins. Located in Grande Champagne, the vineyard covers 29 hectares, consisting of 100% Ugni Blanc, trained on high Cordon trellises and grown using sustainable farming methods. The wines produce eaux de vie that are slow to age, and often do not reach their peak for at least 50 years. It is this slow ageing process that is responsible for the aromatic finesse, power and refinement of these cognacs, which are both supple and long on the palate.

Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.
