Produced from a blend of clairins from the four distilleries of Casimir, Sajous, Vaval and Le Rocher aged in rum, whisky or sherry casks, this Communale version brings together a collection of “ansyenne” clairins, which means “traditional” in Creole. Remarkably well-balanced, it unites the fruity, floral, spicy and earthy notes that characterize each of its components. It also highlights the quality of a wood that covers the taffeta-textured palette of aromas and flavours in a fine layer of vanilla and wax.

the complex initial nose is characterized by notes of freshly cut sugar cane. Allowed to breathe, it develops into beeswax and forest floor (mushroom). Exotic fruits (mango, banana) punctuate an aromatic palette with many more secrets to reveal. The well-balanced attack reveals a wonderful vegetal softness (straw). The unctuous mid-palate is chocolatey and apricotey. A note of pine resin is also present. The assertive start of the finish is empyreumatic (hydrocarbon). A full and complete expression of the terroir. The end of the palate is exotic (dried mango) and herbaceous (verbena).

Tasting note

  • Appearance : golden yellow.
  • Nose : refined, complex. On the first nose, notes of freshly cut cane take centre-stage. Beeswax then underscores the influence of a very refined wood. Allowed to breathe, it develops notes of olive and forest floor (mushroom), tobacco, heady florals (geranium, rose) and heather. Gradually, intense aromas of stewed exotic fruits (mango, banana, pineapple) get the measure of an aromatic palette that has many more secrets to reveal.
  • Palate : elegant, balanced. With a very pleasant vegetal softness (cut hay, straw), the attack takes on the exotic register of the nose, whilst also being very spicy (pepper, candied ginger). The unctuous mid-palate is first chocolatey and apricotey, before becoming empyreumatic (pine resin, cedar). A delicious tapenade flavour brings out the rich and oily character of the end of the palate.
  • Overall : long, assertive. At the start of the finish, hydrocarbon notes (diesel) bring the tasting to extremely radical ground. The expression of the terroir has reached its peak. Next, dried mango and candied lemon bring the energy required to ensure lots of length. On the retro-nasal olfaction, subtle herbaceous (verbena, sage) and chocolate notes shrewdly refresh the palate. The empty glass reveals a remarkably pure expression of cane juice and roasted pineapple aromas.

Traditional Haiti ! These highly artisanal eaux-de-vie, similar to white agricole rums, have long been the most popular drink in the remotest, poorest regions of Haiti. Bottled at natural strength, these three bottlings come from three different distilleries but have aspects in common: pure, well balanced alcohols capable of evolving interestingly and expressively in the glass. The Brazilian have cachaça, the Haitian have clairin!

The Velier company was founded by the Chaix family in 1947. From 1953 to 1983, this small traditional company, located in the port of Gênes, specialised in the importation and distribution of wines, champagnes and spirits. In 1983, then aged 25, Luca Gargano acquired shares in Velier. Under his influence the company began specialising in the importation of exceptional spirits to be supplied to the most prestigious establishments in Italy. In the early 1990s, Luca Gargano heard rumours of a mythical, quasi-legendary stock of St James Rum that had supposedly been distilled at the end of the 19th century. Eventually he discovered proof that this stock, distilled in 1885 and bottled in 1952, did indeed exist. And in 1991, following lengthy discussions, Luca finally managed to acquire the entirety of this stock, which he then released on the Italian market. These selections of rums have since multiplied and led to the birth of exceptional ranges.
