Wine is an alcoholic beverage made by the fermentation of grape juice. It has been an integral part of all the main western civilizations since its discovery, considered to have taken place about 8,000 years ago in the Georgia region. While all the ingredients necessary for the production of alcohol come directly from the grapes – water, sugar and yeasts – modern wine production tends to focus on yields and thus also uses pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers and yeasts that are specially cultured in laboratories. The wines presented have been selected from winegrowers who reject these practices and believe in a more natural approach.
