Sirops
Syrups are sweet non-alcoholic liquids that are used in various types of drinks and in cooking. Created by reducing a sweet liquid (water mixed with sugar, sugarcane juice, agave juice, etc.), syrups sold in France must contain at least 55% sugar (50% in the case of citrus fruit syrups). Fruit syrups must contain a minimum of 10% fruit juice in addition to the sugar (7% in the case of citrus fruit). Orgeat syrup is flavoured mainly with almond extract; grenadine syrup rarely contains grenadine, and is usually a mixture of red fruit extracts and vanilla.
