STRATHISLA
The Strathisla distillery is one of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland. Founded in 1786, it was for a long time the property of William Longmore, before being acquired in 1950 by James Barclay, an important figure in the Chivas Brothers company. Strathisla has been at the heart of the famous Chivas Regal blend ever since. With its magnificent buildings, including its working water wheel, it is the perfect ambassador for the Chivas brand, although sadly versions of its single malt are now released all too rarely. Strathisla is therefore better known under the Gordon & MacPhail semi-official label – Strathisla-Glenlivet Distillery – with this family-run, independent bottlers even acting as the sole bottler and distributor of this emblematic Speyside malt in the 50s and 60s.
