Character
Tasting
Nose : round, smooth. The initial nose has a delicate peaty bitterness that forms the backbone to support a bouquet of seaweed, fresh fruit and black liquorice. Allowed to breathe, it is enriched with heady floral perfumes of lilac and lily. Its fruitiness then becomes more exotic (passion fruit, mango), while the iodine and sea spray remind us that we are by the sea.
Appearance : burnished gold.
Palate : rich, dense. Peaty undertones simultaneously oily and roasted (tobacco, coffee) first mingle with spices (pepper, cinnamon) and very ripe fruit (peach, apricot). Unabated, the mid-palate exudes a marked animal flavour (leather, bacon). Then notes of damp straw and malted barley point the way towards a more vegetable and herbaceous register.
Overall : long, silky. Its velvety tannins are covered in chocolate and liquorice. Intensely smoky, the finish perfectly reproduces the beautifully rich character of Bowmore. Its exoticism favours pineapple and mango over passion fruit. The retro-nasal olfaction is like chewing a liquorice stick while salt and seaweed spread over the palate. The empty glass is animal, meaty and powdery.
