BENRINNES 22 ans 1996 51,4%

Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 56696

Quantity limited to 6 bottle(s) by client.

Located at an altitude of 200 metres on the northern slope of the Ben Rinnes mountain, the Benrinnes distillery was completely rebuilt in 1955 before being modernised and automated in the autumn of 2012. From 1974 to 2007, the distillery’s spirit was distilled two and a half times. This very sober bottling aged 23 years has managed to preserve the energy of its youth. And so it is with a brisk pace that it guides the taster through the twists and turns of a particularly bright and colourful palette of flavours and aromas which constantly gains height in order to showcase the inextricable connections uniting the three stages of the tasting.

the distinguished attack is a blend of ripe fruit (Mirabelle plum) and heady florals (iris). Allowed to breathe, its rustic character takes on more breadth (wildflower, cut hay). The nobly spiced (cardamom) aromatic palette precedes a juicy (wild peach), milky (coconut) and vanilla palate. Aromatic plants bring lots of freshness to the mid-palate. The silky start of the finish is oriental (turkish delight) and spicy (turmeric). The very end of the palate is herbaceous.

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : golden yellow.
  • Nose : refined, distinguished. A subtle mixture of ripe fruits (pear, Mirabelle plum) and heady florals (lily, iris), the first nose is particularly elegant. Allowed to breathe, florals (daffodil, buttercup), cut hay and lucerne bring the tasting to a very inspired rustic register. Later, tobacco and noble spices (cardamom, clove) appear alongside the intoxicating fragrance of patchouli. In a grand finale, acacia honey brings lots of sweetness to the aromatic palette.
  • Palate : clean, precise. With authority, the attack reveals fruity (wild peach, lime), milky (coconut) and vanilla flavours. On the mid-palate, verbena and sage bring beautiful green and iridescent nuances to the chromatic palette. With lots of flair, the end of the palate evokes a mint tea, chamomile infusion or even a creamy vanilla flan. The end of the palate is roasted (coffee) and cocoaey.
  • Overall : long, silky. The deliciously saline start of the finish has an oriental influence (turkish delight, rose petal). This is confirmed eloquently by a hint of curry and turmeric. On the retro-nasal olfaction, the same aromatic plants refresh the palate. The empty glass is heady, spicy (nutmeg) and rich (cappuccino, tiramisu).
The brand

The brand

Benrinnes remains relatively undiscovered, but is nevertheless well-known amongst whisky lovers. Its tumultuous history featured a succession of reconstructions and changes in ownership, until in 1925 it was finally given some stability by being incorporated into the Distillers Company Limited. This distillery, which was equipped with its own saladin box for malting its barley until 1984, is noted for its rather unconventional “partial triple distillation”. Although its rare official bottlings have remained in the shadows: The Flora & Fauna and Rare Malts collections, its most expressive whiskies are to be found on the independent bottlings market.

Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.

The line

Since the dawn of time, artist collectives have been a place of exchange, inspiration and creativity. In the same way, each of the single malts found in our Artist Collective range draws the richness of their olfactory and gustatory palettes from the marriage of various casks. Devoted to diversity, every region and every style of Scottish single malt, peated and unpeated, are represented. Within this range we also find 43%, 48%, 57.1% (100 proof) and cask-strength bottlings. To illustrate the labels of the six bottlings in our first collection, La Maison du Whisky has called on contemporary artists from very different backgrounds. Each of them brings their own very personal touch that echoes the richness of the single malts selected!
