This single malt matured in ex-bourbon barrels has been finished for a few months in Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels. A past master in the art and techniques of finishing, Benriach offers us, with its ‘Wood Finish Series’, a sleeker, unchillfiltered version of its whisky with no added colour.
More recently Benriach has developed several very successful limited series with specific finishings in barrels previously used for spirits such as port, Pedro Ximenez, rum, Madeira, etc. Each version is matured for an additional 12 to 24 months, which accentuates the complex and rich nature of this Speyside single malt.

- Appearance : gold with glints of amber.
- Nose : well-defined, with notes of honey, rancio, and dark chocolate. Develops with dried fruit and nuts (raisins, walnuts, hazelnuts) on a slightly lemony background.
- Palate : rich and concentrated, confirms the nose with notes of honey and cream. Develops with papaya, wild roses and eucalyptus.
- Overall : long, with dark chocolate, Pedro Ximenez sherry and sweeter notes of oak.
- The brand
Rather unjustly, Benriach was, until just a few years ago, relatively unknown, but it hasn’t ceased to make up for lost time. Indeed, this distillery has, for many decades, had a huge amount to offer and has proven this time and time again since being bought in 2004. Its warehouses are bursting with all sorts of sherry butts (Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, etc.), new American oak casks, ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads dating back to the 1960s, as well as casks previously used for wine, rum, madeira, port and even Rioja!
