BARBADOS 2005 SB TCRL 55,2%
Rhum De Melasse, Barbados, 70cl, Ref: 55314
A blend of pot still distilled rums and column still distilled rums, this small batch was first aged in a tropical climate in ex-bourbon casks for eleven years. It then continued its maturation in ex-rum casks in a continental climate for two years. Combining exuberance and rigour, right from the start this version takes us by the taste buds to discover every corner of the very complex palette of flavours and aromas right through to the particularly eloquent empty glass.
Profile: the deep initial nose wavers between spices (pepper), camphor, chilli and heady florals (geranium). Allowed to breathe, it becomes vegetal (sugarcane) and tertiary (mushroom). The lively attack is characterized by notes of pipe tobacco, gillyflower and spice (curry). The more unctuous mid-palate is milky (coconut), honeyed (bay leaf) and syrupy (cane sugar). The long finish is oriental (Turkish delight) and apricoty. Ginger gradually coats the sides of the mouth. Exclusive to LMDW.

- Appearance : copper with glints of burnished gold.
- Nose : ample, deep. With lots of energy, the initial nose wavers between spice (black pepper), camphor, orange zest, chilli (cayenne) and heady florals (geranium). Allowed to breathe, it becomes vegetal (sugarcane) and tertiary (mushroom, moss). Next, it suddenly paints a clear picture of white peach. The aromatic palette shows exemplary rigour.
- Palate : clear, lively. The very invigorating attack spreads into notes of pipe tobacco, gillyflower and strong spices (turmeric, nutmeg, curry). More unctuous and smooth, the mid-palate floods the palate with milky (coconut, almond), syrupy (cane sugar) and honeyed (bay leaf, lime blossom) waves. The end of the palate wavers between candied citrus fruit (mandarin, orange), geranium blossom, a few black fruits (bramble, blackcurrant) and herbs (chamomile, verbena).
- Overall : long, balanced. The start of the finish highlights its oriental character (rose petal, Turkish delight, pistachio cake). With time, a delicious apricot liqueur coats the tongue, while grated ginger and gentian root bring a refreshing bitterness to the sides of the mouth. The retronasal olfaction is jammy (apricot, apple), spicy (star anise) and chocolatey. Clove, nutmeg and vanilla pod launch an attack from the empty glass.
- The brand
Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.
