BALBLAIR 1996 Spanish Oak Cask LMDW Cellar Book Of 54,4%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands, 70cl, Ref: 53455
A 1996 vintage blend of two bourbon casks finished for an additional two years in a single sherry cask. Over time, an assortment of jams, dried fruit, spices, heady flowers and polished oak unfurl in the glass, resulting in a rich and deeply complex single malt which we are proud to say is exclusive to LMDW. Cask #22 - first fill Spanish oak butt. Limited Edition - LMDW Exclusive
Profile: the rich and very complex nose is fruity, roasted, spicy and
jammy. Allowed to breathe, it becomes floral, herby and almost
medicinal. On the palate, notes of liquorice stick and cinnamon appear
alongside very fresh vanilla. With tertiary notes, it becomes increasingly
mature (leather, marmalade, mousse). The finish is characterised by notes of emery paper and fresh fruit (peach).

- Nose : bold and assertive with toffee, walnut, fig, apricot and liquorice. Ginger and black pepper creep in alongside quince jam, followed by rose, lily and a soft medicinal note.
- Palate : rich and textured. Liquorice stick, cinnamon and vanilla ice cream followed by a touch of ash. Oak, cedar and leather emerge, rounding off with the pleasant bitterness of Seville oranges.
- Overall : long and silky. Masterfully structured with an abundance of fruits. Sweet white peach, melon, red berries, plum and gooseberry. Finishes with delicate notes of honey, star anise and menthol.
- The brand
One of the rare distilleries to produce vintage-dated editions (rather than bottles aged for 10, 12, 15 years etc.), Balblair produces a generous, round, fruity and accessible whisky. Bottled at no less than 43% ABV (46% and cask strength for older bottlings), it is one of the rare single malts to remain largely unknown despite being ideal for beginners: no notes of peat or iodine, very rarely woody and always welcoming.
